Trends and What's New for the 2006 Snowboard Season
!
Here's a Look at What's Hot for 2006
With summer winding down and the snowboard season rapidly approaching, it's time to start thinking about what gear you are going to buy this year. Here's a quick look at some of the trends and products we are looking forward to seeing on the slopes in 2006.
Snowboard Clothing Trends

Punks, preps and high fashion divas can all rejoice. There is something for everyone this year, whether you prefer to strut your stuff down the streets of Brooklyn or on the runways of New York.
Garanimals eat your heart out. Coordinated outerwear ensembles are in for 2006 and companies are making it easier than ever to mix and match.
If you can imagine a pattern, print or fabric, it is likely that some company is using it somewhere in their 2006 line. Every type of camo, argyle, stripe, day-glo, plaid, tweed, twill, herringbone, suede and leather is available.
Nothing is too bold this year.
Plaid? Camo? How about Plamo? Burton says "Why not?" Also from Burton is the entire (Shaun) White Collection and something from their Ronin line for everyone from the metrosexual to those dabbling in espionage.
686 continues with its Artist Collaboration Effort. And if you are feeling really adventurous, try out the day-glo, one-piece 686 Gaper Suit with matching fanny pack. Totally radical!
Looking for the ultimate in outerwear technology? Check out the Virtue Jacket from Helly Hansen. It has sonically welded seams which means there is absolutely no stitching or glue used on the seams. This jacket is truly state of the art.
Bonfire has an impressive lineup including prints from Andy Jenkins and Zoic Studios. The Skull Crusher beanie with built-in headphones is another Bonfire original.
Built-in balaclavas are turning up in more outerwear pieces this season. This is a great feature for colder days.
Softshell technology has made huge advances over the past couple of years. Sessions, Burton, K2 and Helly Hansen have some excellent examples.
DC introduces Park Built Technology into their entire line. This is the first park-specific outerwear. Features include articulated, ergonomic cuts, reinforced construction in high abrasion areas and Exotex weather protection.
Snowboard Trends

Snowboard shapes have come full circle. True twin-tip boards are no longer a thing of the past.
Bold colors and die-cut bases are nothing new, but this year companies seem to be having more fun with their graphics.
The Burton Vapor is the lightest board ever made. Nothing else is even close.
The Arbor Push has a bamboo topsheet and is one of the coolest looking boards out this year. Be careful...if you buy it, you may not want to ride it. It looks that good.
Thanks to thinner cores and advancing technology, this year's snowboards are lighter than ever.
The Ride Kashmir has a cool cut-and-paste fabric topsheet, so no two boards are exactly the same.
Whatever you want to call them - tapered boards, powder boards, pintails - there are plenty to choose from this year. The Option Sansalone FR, Arbor Abacus, Lib Tech Snow Mullet and Burton Fish and Malalo are just a few.
Snowboard Boot Trends

Few companies are going for the futuristic, space-age look this year. Simple, athletic-inspired designs are the norm for 2006.
Skate shoes are an obvious influence on many boot designs as well.
While the BOA lacing system is still growing in popularity, companies like Nitro, Burton and Salomon are introducing their own quick lace systems. Anything that makes getting your boots on easier and faster is okay by me.
Overall boot footprint sizes are shrinking. The DC Park's footprint is a full size smaller than some other models.
Thankfully, boot manufacturers are continuing to make fit their number one priority. This year's boots are more dialed-in than ever.
Snowboard Binding Trends

Companies are getting a little crazy with binding graphics this year...and we like it. Flux is the most off-the-wall, but K2 and Ride have some great designs as well.
Convertible toe straps are being offered by most binding manufacturers in 2006. Now you decide if you want to rock your toe strap over your toe or across the front. Either way, you can still use the same strap.
Rome introduces two new binding models to go with their already impressive line of snowboards.
Props to Drake for releasing the first women's pro model binding - the Priscilla Levac. This season actually sees quite a few advances and new offerings in women specific bindings.

Snowboard Accessory Trends

Goggle companies are keeping up with the times. Anon has everything from woodgrain to polka dots to leather adorning their frames, while Spy has their rocker inspired series. Smith also has some cool prints.
Another goggle notable is the Dragon/686 collaboration. The companies have created limited edition goggles and outerwear to cross-promote the brands.
Maybe that Louis Vuitton luggage set is just out of your price range. Luckily, many of your favorite snowboard brands are now making complete matching sets of luggage and travel accessories. DAKINE and Burton are just two companies that will have you stylin' through the terminal in 2006.
Now that iPods and MP3 players are the norm, helmet companies such as Giro, Pro-Tec, and Red offer headphones that are built right in.
New Companies

Cappel took a break for a few years and now they are back.
This ultra hip brand has a great lineup for those who wish to express their individuality.
Sepia is an exciting new outerwear company from the mastermind behind 686. Look for unique, outside-of-the-box design ideas from this new brand.
Union Binding Company is the newest player in the game with a complete line of high-end bindings.
Shelter is looking to take base layer clothing to a new level with high performance, stylish designs.
Venue completes the Northwave, Drake and Bakoda family with a full line of high performance snowboards.
Celsius brings skate-inspired designs to their brand new boot line
